Through Social Security you can apply to many benefits and programs that can help you to either cover medical needs or supplement your income when confronting disabling conditions.

The different benefits that Social Security provides have similar requirements however to learn about the specific requirements to each type of benefit visit ssa.gov

Minimum retirement age 62 y.o.
Full retirement age 67 y.o.
Accumulate 40 credits of contributions

HOSPITAL INSURANCE
Part A helps to cover expenses for hospital, skilled nursing facilities and hospice.
You need to contribute 40 credits (equals to 10 years of Medicare contributions) to receive it at no cost, otherwise you will pay according to a chart displayed in Medicare.gov
Once you achieve the 40 credits you are entitled to receive Part A

MEDICAL INSURANCE
Part B helps you to cover 80% of the medical cost, like visiting your physician.
You can apply 3 months before the month that you turn 65 y.o., the month of and 3 months after (7 months time frame)
Part B has a cost that changes every year, for 2026 it will be $202.90. The payment goes directly to Social Security.
If you don't apply at your initial enrollment period and you don't have a qualified health insurance you might be penalized.

PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLAN (PDP)
Part D helps cover prescription drug costs.
You must be entitled to Part A or sign up for Part B before enrolling in Part D

MEDICARE ADVANTAGE
To enroll in Part C you must be entitled to Part A and signed up for Part B. Part C will help you to cover the 20% that Part A & B don't cover with copays, deductibles and max out of pockets.

When you have Medicare, Medicaid takes a different name Medicare Saving Program (MSP) which has 4 levels that go according to the person's income and resources.
Apply with your Human Services Office or via the Peak application.
Along with the application you need to submit all supporting documents.
This Waiver will help you to obtain medical services appropriate to your disability.
Your application will be transfer to a Case Management Agency that works with your County Human Services to exclusively process disability applications, they will assign you a case worker and they will make the final determination for the waiver. approval/denial
